Easter Cross

 

 

As we travel through life we use landmarks to navigate. These landmarks can be part of our personal lives or things that the whole community shares.

Some landmarks are part of our relationships and family life; some are part of our working life; some are joyful, while others are sorrowful.

 

 

 

 

 

Landmark Services held in 2014

Palm Sunday - Sunday April 13 2014 at 9.30am - an all age service.

Maundy Thursday - April 17 2014 at 7.30pm. Tenebrae Communion Service. We gathered around the table in stillness to share in the Gospel narrative, poetry, bread and wine.

Good Friday - April 18 2014 at 9.30am. We gathered around the foot of the Cross to reflect on the self-giving of God in Christ, then and now.

Easter Day - Sunday April 20 2014 at 9.30am. Celebrate Christ's risen life. As we gathered we each had the opportunity to place a flower on the Cross, together expressing that in Christ, beauty transcends barrenness.

Wear Purple Day. Sunday June 15 2014 at 9.30am. Our speaker was be Rev. Jorge Rebolledo and our Eminent Elder interview was with Dr. Yvonne McMaster OAM - retired palliative care specialist and tireless campaigner for increased palliative care and cancer support services.

Education Service. Sunday July 27 2014 at 9.30am. Our speakers were Prof. Sharynne McLeod (Charles Sturt University) and Mr. David McLeod, Leader, Rural and Distance Education Programs at NSW Department of Education and Communities. Education Service Flyer 2014

Father's Day. Sunday September 7 2014 at 9.30am. Reflections on fathering. In our lives. In God's heart. We heard from fathers as they reflected on fathering. We heared from sons and daughters, young and old, as they reflected on being fathered. Fathers Day Flyer 2014

Inaugural Health and Medicine Service. Sunday September 21 2014 at 9.30am. Our speaker was Professor Ian Olver AM, CEO of the Cancer Council of Australia. Health & Medicine Service flyer 2014

Grandparents Day 2014Grandparent's Day 2014

Grandparents Day. Sunday October 26 2014 at 9.30am. We respect our seniors and value intergenerational relationships. Grandparents and grandchildren shared their experiences of love, joy, wisdom, courage and fun. Grandparents Day flyer 2014

Bereavement Service. Sunday November 9 2014 at 9.30am. We recalled our best memories, and sought healing and wholeness in our lives.

Choral Carol Service. Sunday December 14 2014 at 9.30am. Choir items and congregational carols.

Blue Christmas. Thursday December 18 2014 at 7.30pm. A service for times when celebrating is hard work.

All-Age Family Service. Sunday December 21 2014 at 9.30am. A service involving the whole family, focussed around family themes in the Christmas story.

Christmas Day Service. Thursday December 25 2014 at 9.30am. Celebrate the old story. Find new ways to live it.

Sunday May 26 - 2nd Annual St Ives Law Service. Speaker: The Hon John Dowd, AO QC, former NSW Attorney General and Supreme Court Judge passionate in advancing the global cause in human rights. Law Service 2013 Flyer

Sunday June 16 - Wear Purple Day. Respect for Seniors. Our speaker for the 9.30am service was Rev. Dr John Cox and our special guest to be interviewed was Sue Conde AM - former President of UNIFEM Australia. Wear Purple Day 2013 Flyer

Sunday July 28 - Education Service. Our speaker was Emeritus Professor Alan Rice. Alan retired recently as Dean of the Australian Centre for Educational Studies at Macquarie University. Following his retirement he served as President of the Baptist Union of NSW. Education Service 2013 Flyer

Sunday September 1 - Father's Day.

Sunday September 22 - Jubilee Service. Our speaker was Rev. Dr Brian Brown - Moderator Synod of NSW and the ACT. We reflected on the adventurous spirit of our Methodist and Presbyterian forbears in St. Ives 50 years ago, and what that means as we move forward adventurously and creatively.
